27971 2001-12-18 21:56:00 how to tell whether someone we have sent an e-mail to has opened it? Guest (0)
27972 2001-12-18 23:18:00 Which mail client are you running?

In Netscape communicator you can configure the type of receipt by going to Edit, Preferences, and selecting Return receipts under the mail and newsgroups category. When you want to request a receipt, click the message sending options tab in the new message and check the Return Receipt box.

27973 2001-12-19 00:23:00 you can also do the same in outlook/express by going to tools/options/receipts ...be aware though that the person receiving has the option of sending the receipt or blocking it so you will not always get a receipt back Guest (0)
27974 2001-12-19 00:24:00 Depends if you dont want the recipient to know you have confirmation of their opening their mail from you.

You could try using .confirm.to

send your email to the recipients normal email address say joebloggs@somewhere.co.nz and add .confirm.to after the email address - ie
joebloggs@somewhere.co.nz.confim.to

You will receive an email when the message has been opened, but the recipient will not know you are being notified

There are some restrictions - Confirm.to service is FREE up to 30 credits for everyone with an email address.

More details at http://www.confirm.to

If you are happy for the recipient to know you are requesting a confirmation of receipt, in outlook, write your message but before sending it, go to options and click on 'Request a read receipt for this message'

In Outlook express write your message and click on 'tools' > request read receipt before sending it

27975 2001-12-19 00:47:00 When sending a messing using Microsoft Outlook,
go to
New (Mail Message)/Options/Tracking Options and check box to request a read receipt. If using Outlook Express, go to Create Mail/Tools/Request Read Receipt. Note that the recipient may may choose not to send the receipt when opening the email.
