27962 2001-12-18 20:23:00 First of all, Merry Christmas all and thank you PC World for this great site... now to my problem. I have installed a DVD in a friends computer but everytim we try to play a DVD to the TV via the s-video out on his video card it comes up with an error message 'Due to copyright issues TV out will be disabled' and switches back to the monitor. It is fine doing it with MPEG's and AVI's etc. I am using software decoding and have tried WinDVD and PowerDVD and get the same problem with both....I know it has something to do with the Macrovision or CSS, which I am presuming I need to disable but so far have had no luck.
Set-Up: Sony DDU-1211 DVD(upgraded firmware), TNT2 Videocard with TV out, PowerDVD and DVD-Genie for Decoding.

Thanks

27963 2001-12-18 20:42:00 As far as I'm aware you can't disable the copyright protection. If you were able to disable it, then why have it there in the first place.

Basically its there so that you can't send the DVD off to your VCR and copy it.

I'll say it can't be done... unless you want to rip the DVD to your Hard drive using a rip program that will also remove the copy protection. But then we enter into the debate over whether this is legal, and I just won't go there.

27964 2001-12-18 21:01:00 Ok! I did some hunting around the web, and found this link:

www.tvtool.de

It's called TVTool, and can supposedly remove Macrovision, it's worth a try!

27965 2001-12-18 22:57:00 I have almost the exact same problem. You are not alone...

Ever since a power surge fried my video card (Voodoo 3) I have had to use TNT2 and it does not allow TV out display. Voodoo 3 had no problems with it!!

I have been trying to find a solution to the 'copywright' problem. And now it seems that I may have.

Cheers Dylan.
