| 27930 | 2001-12-18 07:55:00 | I had been recently fiddling with BIOS setup.( I would like to tell everyone that I am learning!) In this process there are two things that I figured out as something going wrong but found that I couldn't locate them to fix. 1 When I click the Mouse onto the Menubar application drops down with a sound. If I keep moving the Mouse from one to another, it keeps making the sound-something like 'Tlik'. This is audible only when I On the Speakers. 2 The Windows 98SE wouldn't shut up saying ' now it is safe.... but only shows up the full screen WINDOWS 98 stuff. (This is where I started to fiddle with the BIOS) I succeeded in doing it the way I wanted. But if I set up BIOS in a different way, the 'now it is...will come up but the system will keep making a rhythemic 'Thuk' 'Thuk' noise continuously even without the need of speakers! How can I stop these two noises and configure the system back to showing up the 'now you can...' Cheers Mukesh |

The best fix is to go back into your BIOS & reload either the BIOS DEFAULTS or the SETUP DEFAULTS, save then exit & restart. Try running VCMUI or ASD & SFC from the start/run menu. If the thuk ,thuk noise is from hard disk, then you may have a fault on the disk itself, if it's coming from your speakers, then you may have a fault with software. Another thing that causes windows 908SE to hang on shutdown is antivirus packages. Try disabling any AV package if you can. Another thing again that causes Win98SE to hang is the quick shutdown feature. There is a patch available on Microsofts website to repair the Win98 hang on shutdown. |
