| 27857 | 2001-12-18 00:20:00 | Some months ago I downloaded and installed two very useful programmes - Copernic 2001 Basic, and Atomica 2.3.0.222. They installed themselves so that their icons appeared on the task bar, and now they get started up every time I switch on the computer. As I have also got the usual antivirus and firewall software, this now takes over a minute. I only want to use them occasionally, not every time I switch on the computer. How do I stop them automatically starting up when I switch the computer on ? | Guest (0) | ||

Before doing this I suggest you back up the files by making a copy of the system.dat & user.dat files. Open up the run dialog box by press WinKey+R or Start|Run they type 'regedit' Then find 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run' Delete the programs there that you don't want to start when Windows starts. You'll have to manually start those programs if you want them starting up. |

If you look through the programs option/preference settings it may have options to turn the start up functions off. If your running Win2k/XP the services in Admin Folder contains programs that start up as well. There's also a StartUp folder that may have the programs in too. Just delete them from there if they are in there. |

I think the easiest way is to click <start><run> then type <msconfig> and select the <startup> tab. from there find the program and untick the box next to it. click <apply> then <ok> you will now need to restart you computer. | Guest (0) | ||
