28190 2001-12-21 02:16:00 I have recently had to purchase a dial up modem which I will now also use to send and receive faxes. It's a Speedcom+ series V90 using a Conexant HFC chipset. It came with some software called Fax Talk Communicator.

It works fine to send faxes, but I can't get it to receive or to automatically pick up the faxability call. I have searched thru Help to no avail.

So, 1) Does anyone else have this software running as it should. or 2) what other software are ppl using sucessfully. Free software preferred but if I have to buy then so be it.

28194 2001-12-21 10:00:00 Hi Ian

Ive found windows messaging best (most stable, easy)for faxing. Its a w95 programme that you can find on w98 cd in tools\oldwin95\messaging\int. Go to support.microsoft.com or search microsoft knowledge base.
Not sure whether you can run on any other OS's other than 95-98.

You might need a fax/data catcher to use faxability with a pc. Have one in the cupboard if nec'.

28196 2001-12-21 11:02:00 Hi Ian a lot of faxes will not work with faxability.Often it si the modem that will not work with it,but it also may be the software as well.If the modem and or software does not say 'faxability compatable'you will probably be out of luck.Sorry, but the only modems that I know of that work with faxability in NZ are _some_ of the Dynalink ones, and not all of them. You have to check the box. There may be more, but these are the only ones I know of.
Not a lot of help, eh.

28197 2001-12-23 23:25:00 Do what I did. Get an efax number from efax.com so people can fax you at that number and you will receive it as an email attachment. Only trouble is that the numbers are generally USA and not all your friends will want to fax the US. Works for me as my friends are in Japan and it is actually cheaper for them to fax the US.

For local faxes I arrange for them to fax me at a specific time and answer the fax manually by clicking on receive now or answer the call or whatever it says.
