28298 2001-12-22 03:30:00 Can anyone please explain this format for me?
Sometimes I get MIME attachments with email that won't open - also come across MIME image files on some usenet groups - how do you open them ? - I use eudora email and agent news groups
Thanks, Simon

28299 2001-12-22 03:59:00 Invented by Marcel Marceau, this is a method of turning binary files into something that can be transmitted on the internet.

My understanding is that certain characters and codes will reset routers and things, so binaries have to be cut down into a more limited set of ASCII characters.

MIME is one form of encoding to do this. I used to use Xfer Pro a lot, don't need to any more. It will decode and encode heaps of files (it's pretty old, like five years old).

Basically you need to paste the MIME part of the email or document into a text file, save it with an MME extension or whatever, then decode it with a decoder.

Hope this helps.
