| 28250 | 2001-12-21 10:09:00 | I was sold a Creative modem blaster V90 PCI model DI5655, I specificly assked for a full hardware modem because I was going to Linux. RH linux can't find it at all so far. so I asked the Creative Tech support page: would you believe the anser just says it works with windows becaue it has a driver, and they don't have a linux driver. Does anyone know - is this thing a real modem or just a 'winmodem' |

Its not a complete winmodem as the data pump is hardware based, but the controller is done in software. If it uses a connexant chip they are aparantly going to release linux drivers 'by the end of the year'. But for about the same price you should be able to get an external serial (the only safe ones) for about what you paid and avoid all the winmodem problems. |

Read the Modems section. That will give you information, and links to more information to convince you that a Linux modem is an external modem. Go back to that Hardware HOWTO, and read the other sections. They will tell you what is known to work and what is known not to work with Linux. If you read all the HOWTOs, you will know a lot about linux. People have spent a lot of time writing this stuff for you and me. They have been there and done it. They KNOW. |
