28544 2001-12-25 14:40:00 Hi, i was wondering which is more effective to have my cpu fan. Fan blowing into the CPU or blowing OUT? Guest (0)
28545 2001-12-25 14:54:00 I am uncertain which is better for cooling since I haven't gone about doing a test but CPU fans are connected to draw the heat away from the heatsink. So it blows out not in. Guest (0)
28546 2001-12-25 21:37:00 kame is crazy ;-)

very few blow out, noteably alpha heatsinks. they have to be designed slightly differently to work with a blow out fan than with a blow in.

its easy enough to try the fan the otherway around and see what the temp is before and after.

what heatsink do you have?

28547 2001-12-26 02:04:00 hi Tweak'e,

I don't think there is a norm. Two out of four of my socket 370 coolers pull air up and out from the heatsink. One of the 'suckers' is from Intel.
I suspect the direction is more to do with avoiding dust jams than cooling.

28548 2001-12-26 07:08:00 I was about to ask a similar question. I recently upgraded my power supply from 250W to 300W (same manufacturer) The old one sucked air out of the computer but the new one blows it in. Is there a standard or doesn't it make any difference? Guest (0)
28549 2001-12-26 10:46:00 of all the coolers i have seen very few have had fans that blow out. according to a few of my overclocking mates the reason being that the fins have to be designed for blow out fan set ups. i tried reversing the fan on my own setup ages ago. the temps went up 10 degrees at idle !

with power supplys its easy, you do not want hot air blown into the case. mayby the maker put the fan in backwouds by mistake.

28550 2001-12-27 08:48:00 Thanx guys, my heatsink is Thermaltake Volcano 6cu+, and i am running athlon 1.4ghz and it's usually running at 37 degrees at idle. is this temperature ok? Guest (0)
28551 2001-12-27 10:38:00 assuming thats cpu temp thats sweet as. my 1.4 atho idles at 48-50......not to bad for a quiet all alloy heatsink. atho temps sure take a bit of getting used to after all the old cool running cpus i've had.

the 6cu+ is a good heatsink but a 7000rpm fan is ouch on the ears.
