28451 2001-12-24 02:04:00 I have had to reinstall windows.
I have downloaded Jukebox and a couple of other prograes.
They appear to be workling OK except that when I ask one to play a disc it tells me it cannot do so and suggests it may be that another programe is already working.
I've uninstalled everything that may be causing the problem.
A DISC search by a local professional gains the information that there is some unknown programme in the system
I'm stuck.
L.B.Are you?

First, the basics: Have you tried more than one disc? (Assuming CDs?). Can you see the CDROM by using Windows Explorer? If not, your CDROM drive may be faulty.

Other software: you haven't been able to remove the program causing the problem, so which programs are still running? Try CTRL-ALT-DEL to get a list of current tasks.

I have occasional problems with something that takes ownership of floppy disks!

You could try running 'msconfig' (Start/Run) and do a selective startup, then work through all of the programs.

28453 2001-12-25 03:24:00 Nick,
I appreciate your efforts to help.
Thank you Nick for you efforts to help. I have successfully saved music files from my CD to Jukebox on my C drive.
When I tell it to play it will either do as I have said i.e. tell me there is possibly another user.Or it may appear to be going through the motions showing progress as it 'plays' but isn't producing sound. Our local professional guru is stuck by the message about the unknown user. I will do what you suggest re C-A-D etc.

28454 2001-12-26 13:03:00 You haven't said which Jukebox program you are using. My guess is that it is Real Jukebox. Am I right? If so try dumping the jukebox part of real player - lots of people have trouble with it - and install Music Match instead. It used to be available from this web site, free. Guest (0)
