1286213 2012-07-05 07:18:00 Hi

SWMBO's Compaq died a little while ago (luckily the HD still works)

She wants a replacement and emphasises that she is "not a power user" - just Word Processing, photos, simple spreadsheets, e-mail and light Internet use.

She's using this as a starting point (www.dicksmith.co.nz). (got to be around that price range unless there's good reasons to go a bit higher)

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. This particular model does not appear on Toshiba's website. I'm trying to establish whether it has wi- fi and blue tooth.

Thanks in advance

1286217 2012-07-05 10:29:00 The one you've linked to at DSE is great. No bluetooth though. You'll need to go a little dearer to get that. The cheap Asus at Playtech is good, but only has 2 USB ports, the Tosh has 3. Both have USB3. I'd go for the Tosh. The C850s have only just been released.

I would steep away from Acer, Dell and Compaq/HP in this price range.

1286218 2012-07-05 10:40:00 The HP one is quite nice, i'd recommend an ultrabook but the prices for that portability/quality tend to be over $1k.

I noticed HP were having a 40% off sale on ebay stores.ebay.com the only thing is I think most of them are refurbished models (fine by me, not sure about you) and possibly don't have full warranty

1286219 2012-07-05 11:17:00 yep Asus is the best at that price range... the other brands only get to godo quality when you start payign alot more. Slankydudl (16687)

That's a good laptop for the price. +1 for that one.
