1263502 2012-03-07 05:24:00 My daughter sent me a text at 9.20 this morning.
I got it at 5.20 this arvo.
I can walk to her place in less than 10 minutes.
So much for having a cellphone for emergencies.

1263503 2012-03-07 05:27:00 That went Xtra slow. ;) R2x1 (4628)
1263504 2012-03-07 06:20:00 If it was an emergency, I doubt very much that you would send a text. If it there was a crisis it would be more sensible and quicker to make a voice call. Roscoe (6288)
1263505 2012-03-07 07:23:00 A phone on the way out will cause this as well. sam m (517)

Ah, but did you have your phone turned on all day, and were you near enough to it to hear the text come in? If so, then yes, that sucks a bit. Having said that, I think emergency calls would take precedence over text messages.

1263507 2012-03-07 10:49:00 I only send text messages because I am too stingy to pay for a phone call. Bobh (5192)
1263508 2012-03-07 19:03:00 When there are two networks involved, one being Xtra, slow txts are not particularly unusual. (They are still clearing the queued 025 messages perhaps?) ;) R2x1 (4628)
1263509 2012-03-07 20:22:00 I don't believe martynz actually stated the network(s) involved, R2x1... :) You know what they say about "assume" :D johcar (6283)

Though there was a case in the USA last year when a car driver ignored the flashing lights and lowered barrier arms and the blaring horn of the approaching train and got wacked.

While he lay there in what was left of his car, he gets out his cell phone and sends a txt to his wife telling her that he has been hit by a train and asking her to call 911.

Would have been quicker to call 911 though by the time he called them if he had done so straight away, 911 would have already known about it from the train crew or railroad anyway.
