1263418 2012-03-06 22:03:00 Now they have just got all their union buddies sacked. www.nzherald.co.nz . And they are all "gutted" by the move?? What did they really expect!! Iantech (16386)
1263419 2012-03-06 22:13:00 Did you see the vote. 35% support the sacked workers and 65% the port. That says it all.

1263420 2012-03-06 22:23:00 "There is no basis for this proposal. We're already providing flexibility and have offered even more in negotiations with the Ports.

Mr Parsloe said the announcement "flies in the face of public opinion".

Dicks.

They had a sweet job, now they have none due to their actions.

1263421 2012-03-06 22:27:00 Traditional divide and conquer tactics.

I doubt that this will be the end of it, and I sure wouldn't want to be one of the 'new' employees trying to get on or off the site.

PoA's decision could have long-term and far reaching consequences for more than just Ports of Auckland before it is all over. Unloading a ship here is one thing, getting it loaded overseas is another, as is getting outgoing cargo unloaded in some foreign ports.

Personally I think they jumped too soon, there was enough face-saving wriggle room left for both parties to sort it.

Cheers

Reading SJ's thread 'Breakdown: America In Crisis' might give you a hint as to why the PoA actions are unhealthy for all of us.

1263422 2012-03-06 22:38:00 Think the Maritime Union should be dragged kicking and screaming into the real world

Don't think they are part of Kiwiana www.youtube.com

1263424 2012-03-06 22:52:00 I wouldn't mind being one of the new employees.

Good luck to them.

Would you be happy with your guaranteed 40 hours work being spread out across 7 days ??
or have an 8 hour day, 4 in the morning, 4 much later in the afternoon/evening ?? ( a big gap in the middle of the work day)

1263426 2012-03-06 23:41:00 I have always been happy to be in paid employment, and lets not pretend the wharfies were going to be underpaid or overworked. Metla (12)
1263427 2012-03-06 23:43:00 Does anyone have a link to the old package vs the new package?

Just the facts, no spin?
