2012-03-05 05:36:00 | Had a call last week, I had just run a bath so politely declined. Same caller this afternoon, went along with it this time. How many people in your household? One. Can I ask age? One hundred and twentyfive. Could you repeat that? One hundred and twentyfive. Can I ask your etnicity? Martian. I beg your pardon. I'm from Mars. Sound of phone being hung up from other end.

"hello...hello, can you hear me... hello, is there anyone there....." after about 3 minutes of them cursing and swearing (thinking they cant be heard), they hang up thinking they have a bad line and ring straight back. When they do, you do the same thing again, and again if they do it a third time. Done it several times, works great. You can be assured after the first few times you will no longer be on their call list :) | Iantech (16386) | ||
2012-03-05 06:40:00 | Had one last week. I just could not be bothered, so put the phone down beside the computer and let her ramble on for a couple of minutes, till she realized that no one was listening and then she just hung up. LL

2012-03-05 09:15:00 | Unless out on a job, I sit next to the phone in my office just about all day and I have pretty much lost patience with random callers, so mostly I just interrupt politely after their first few words and tell them I'm not interested. If they start again, I interrupt a little less politely and ask them what part of 'I'm not interested' was it that you didn't understand? That never fails. The odd one is so damned courteous and pleasant that I feel obliged to let them give their opening spiel, then I congratulate them on their professionalism, tell them that most cold-callers don't last more than 10 seconds, but I'm not interested thanks, and they go off happy. In the first case I'm happy because I've ruined their sales pitch, and in the second case I'm happy because they are both happy and gone! There is a third category, and that is the Cheerful Charlie (or Charlene) who assumes I'll know what their company is all about, so I interrupt with a question along the lines of 'so what does MegaCrap Ltd actually do?' then the rest follows script no 1. None last longer than 45 seconds tops, and only the good ones get that far, most are gone in 15 or less. It is just a game really, but it stops me wanting to climb down the phone and strangle them with their own headset cord. They are all tightly scripted (for my sins, I helped a friend to write such scripts some years back) and if interrupted they find it very hard to continue if they can't return to their script and pull you back onto their path. All local telemarketing calls are recorded by the way, every single one if it is from within NZ, so don't ever make the mistake of uttering threats of violence etc. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2012-03-05 09:41:00 | I just surveyed my phone. It's way under an acre at present, but if there's too many surveys it will be under a mere six feet. (No metrics today thank you.) | R2x1 (4628) | |
2012-03-05 18:04:00 | For some reason I used to think that answering these surveys was fun. That must have got me onto their list and they started ringing me at awkward times. I would liken it to being swarmed by mosquitoes in a South Westland camping ground. They were just as pesky. At least you can swat a mosquito to get rid of it but her mates keep coming to annoy and harass you. | Bobh (5192) | |
2012-03-05 18:35:00 | I don't mind the surveys. I was asked to do one a while ago, and the end they said did I want to go in the draw for $1000 or be sent $10. I choose $10, and yes, it came - in cash - 2 days later. They asked if I minded be rung again, so I said yes. I don't like the sales calls - or the scam calls.
