1262507 2012-03-01 04:26:00 One of my clients has just received a quote to get a DVR system and 4 cameras installed in a new premises for just over $4900 + GST. I reckon its a bit pricey for what it is and what they require.
The DVR unit has been quoted at $2000 (+ GST) and cameras at $495 +, the rest is made up of labour (install and commission), a 24V power supply ($330 +), baylun and fixings etc (video runs over Cat5).

The DVR unit quoted is a Samsung 8 channel unit (not sure why 8 when there are only 4 cameras, but I guess it gives the capacity to add more in the future it required).

If anyone is in the business or knows anyone or can recommend a good Company that I can get a few other quotes from or talk to to compare thoughts and prices, I would really appreciate the help.

Or do you think this is a reasonable price?

Thanks for any help and suggestions.
Cheers
Ian

1262508 2012-03-01 06:14:00 Holy crap that's an expensive power supply. I work in security (tech) and yes, that is pricey. The DVR seems to be priced well but it looks like they have jacked the price up on the rest of it. pine-o-cleen (2955)

Now I'm pretty sure those guys ^ will be rough as f**k and the DVR won't exactly be 'quality', but it makes your quote sound expensive though doesn't it?

I was wondering about the power supply (and price) myself but dont really know what it is as I dont have much to do with security systems. Do you think it is some sort of AC adaptor with 4 (or maybe 8) power outlets so all the cameras run from one power source maybe? Is that even possible to get? All I have seen in the past is each camera has its own power adaptor. If its not to do with the cameras, what else do you use a 24V power supply with in security. Just a thought while writing this - do you think its some sort of UPS in case of a power supply failure so the DVR and cameras keep rolling maybe?

All the quote says about the cameras is that they are "Vandel Proof Dome Cameras" - I guess thats required in this day and age. Brand was not stated.

1262511 2012-03-02 02:05:00 For a professional job, the price is reasonable. I was in the same trade and you have to expect callouts etc and also warranty. You can buy similar from Jaycar but at a much lower quality. You get what you pay for. Peter H (220)
