What bothers me about all this tablet/smartphone stuff with bugger-all inputs, no keyboard and no ability to rund commercial software is exactly what are businesses supposed to do if they can't get get a "proper" PC? I depend on PCs for my living and even if it is just the software that loses full functionality, I won't be able to use my instrumentation as most is still wedded to serial and parallel ports . I've tried the 's-p/p-p to usb' gadgets and they might as well be a piece of fruitcake for all the use they are . ASs I've said before, I'm still running DOS programs and there are no upgrades coming my way . Industry is wedded to PCs and there's a heck of a lot of legacy stuff still made and sold that needs them . I can't see an iPad or any other tablet running machine control software any time soon but many PCs can, and I'm not too keen on what I read about the latest Windows effort either . First thing I did with XP was find 'classic view' for the OS and all the other programs I run to keep it lean and mean . At least I can eat fruitcake . . . . . . . . . I'm safe until the iFly cockpit appears, but in the meantime, how long will it be before some addled pilot swipes his finger across the cockpit window to line up with the runway? :D I don't mind fly-by-wire quite so much, provided they have a backup system in case a fuse blows, but treating the vagaries of flight like a computer game is a step too far for me . Next thing you know they'll have an iDunny throwing brown screens of death, or an iHostie who freezes one row in front with the drinks trolley . Where would you look for the reset button, and would it be ok to poke with your finger if you found it? Cheers Billy 8-{) :devil |
