1286320 2012-07-06 04:55:00 Strange question from me today (then again, are my questions ever "normal")

Clearing out a whole lot of tech stuff when I came across a strange mix of what looked like PCI ethernet/TV tuner, after a bit of googling I have identified it as an Accton EN1208TC 10mbps Ethernet card, fair enough given the RJ-45 but what's the BNC on it for? I presume it's for some precursor networking system that out dates my knowledge and understanding! Anything you could use it for?

Looks like this cache.osta.ee

1286321 2012-07-06 04:59:00 This (en.wikipedia.org). BNC connectors were commonly used on 10base2 thin Ethernet networks, both on cable interconnections and network cards. The TNC (threaded) connector is used for stable performance at higher frequencies than used with the BNC connector. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1286322 2012-07-06 05:22:00 So, if my understanding is right, they used coax with the TNC rather than Ethernet for better performance over distance networks or as an Ethernet alternative? The Error Guy (14052)
1286323 2012-07-06 08:22:00 I've got a bunch of the T shaped BNC joiners, and a couple of the terminator connectors for this older style of network... if it's of any use to anyone. Paul.Cov (425)
1286324 2012-07-06 09:15:00 Unfortunately not me, i'm clearing out my gear and have no use for it. Perhaps someone here has a legacy network? The Error Guy (14052)
