1262862 2012-03-04 04:22:00 Thought about fixing the mortgage . So I thought I'd see what was involved . Rang - got told someone would ring back . Which they did just before .

Guy says, just let me know and I'll do that now . . . . oh yes?

Easy then?

Yes, yes, he says just the $250 fee .

What fee? For what? - This is where it disintegrated into rubbish . . . . . . .

He says it's the fee .

Fee for what exactly I persist . . . .

Because it's the banks policy he says very loudly and impatiently .

But it's for what exactly I say?

Because it's the fee he shouts down the phone at me .

Right then I say, goodbye .

Geez . . . . . . so I have a look online . . . . . .

Paying off the mortgage - $50

Changing mortgage loan type - $250

Paying an extra sum on your mortgage - $50

Renewing a fixed mortgage - $50

How rude . . not just the fees, but his snotty, how dare you ask questions attitude . . . . well I've never had fixed before, even when it was going up and down drastically, so I think I won't bother now either .

1262863 2012-03-04 04:41:00 Maybe you should tell us the name of the bank, pctek - so the rest of us can be forewarned. That kind of "customer service" is just not acceptable.

I had an experience with ASB on Friday. Just moving some accounts around. They (or at least, "my" "personal Banker") insisted that I wouldn't be able to just cut and paste my APs and bill payments data. They/she would give me a printout and I would have to sit down and manually transfer them from one account to another. Stuck to my guns and after patiently explaining to "my" "personal banker" why that was a crock of s**t, and after explaining (again) to two levels of manager up, I finally found someone who just took over and with two clicks of the mouse, fixed the problem. Voila!

This should not happen. Banks these days are nothing but a shop, and the standard of training of their staff on a level of a Hardly Normal, or DSE. The only reason I didn't walk was I don't have any alternative. There are exceptions, but collectively, they're all as bad as each other.

Rant over. :2cents:

1262865 2012-03-04 10:44:00 Mine (BNZ) isn't so bad... no drama like that, last time I tried to do anything interesting they only managed to _lose_ all the paperwork, and then magically forgot to tell anyone, leaving me wondering why almost two weeks later nothing was done, having to ask them what was going on and then re-starting the whole process.... 1262866 2012-03-04 19:04:00 ASB.

Perhaps he'd just run out of cocaine that day....

1262867 2012-03-04 19:23:00 I've been very happy with the local ASB.

However, they have done some sly stuff with the account suffixes.

The savings account, which was interest bearing many years ago when opened had quietly been turned into non-interest bearing, and now the ATM calls it a cheque account, despite never ever having had a chq book for this account.

Had a teller trying to be helpful, tellng me she'd open another suffix for me, and that I should put my $ into that one. Couldn't really fathom why, and couldn't get a shred of info online about the various suffixes, but it turns out this 'new' suffix is basically doing what my old sufffix used to do.

The trap now is that the formerly fee-free account is now called a chq account, and will be subject to the usual rort of dishonor fees if it ever gets overdrawn. And with the zero interest they're trying to get people to draw down the balance in these accounts (increasing the chance of an o/d event, and also these somewhat aged accounts are also the ones with all the auto payments loaded, also increasing the likelihood of an o/d.

All dirty play as far as I'm concerned.

1262868 2012-03-04 20:29:00 I have found ASB down here in Richmond Nelson, tops for help and assistance and have never had any problems.:clap Even wiped some fees when I smiled nicely:clap, then I go to my local branch, not talk to some one in Auckland when one phones the 800 number. Must be something in the air up there. Arnie (6624)

1262870 2012-03-04 23:13:00 As with any company big enough, there will undoubtedly be a few crappy employees. Agent_24 (57)

Yep, used to say "its hard to get good staff, its even harder to keep good staff, but it is even harder than that to get rid of the crappy ones"
