1262613 2012-03-01 20:51:00 Poverty and no way out of it looms greatly over everyone in the US - and those who haven't arrived yet are maybe one paycheck away from total financial devastation.

Interesting front page article here:: link.huffingtonpost.com

{ibid} - we are home to a middle class confronting the erosion of several decades of financial and social gains and a deeply entrenched population of impoverished Americans cursed with diminished opportunities, diminished ways of escape, and diminished expectations.

"The slum is the measure of civilization," noted Jacob Riis, the Danish journalist who began chronicling urban poverty more than 120 years ago. In that context, history and progress for the poorest Americans can seem frozen, and our own modern-day claims that we are fostering a civil society are built on sand.

The Lingering Global Crisis and the New Poor -- Marcelo Giugale, World Bank’s Director of Economic Policy and Poverty Reduction Programs for Africa -- 02.28.2012

"The lingering global crisis is forcing us to rethink the objectives and the tools of social policy. Past meltdowns in Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin-America provide us with some good hints on what to expect and how to respond."

1/4 (??) of upsidedowners cant afford to live in their own country, & cost of living just keeps going up
Just look at all the upsidedowners on some sort of government handout/benefit/subsidy .
The camels back is broken, just being propped up with Govt borrowing .

1262615 2012-03-01 21:45:00 America has been doomed ever since the war of independance, they rejected the monarchy yet have been trying to get it back ever since. If they sack all there politicians and put the Queen back on top all will be fixed :illogical gary67 (56)

1262618 2012-03-01 23:46:00 This next 'election' will send everything into a tailspin since the divisiveness and hate across the aisles in congress will not let up . Intelligent persons (at other times) are making amazingly stupid decisions from the highest levels .

I don't see it getting any better and seriously, I see it as DOA no matter what 'politicians' try to do; it's all gridlocked and nobody's blinking . All the trench dwellers are in survival mode and there is little or no concern about the big picture any more .

One of the biggest owners of the US is Britain .

1262621 2012-03-02 00:39:00 From the article
a category generally known as "extreme poverty." For a family of four, including two dependent children, that would amount to an annual income of about $11,000 or less."
on a world scale, that is hardly extreme poverty.

Is this all just a worldwide adjustment, bringing everyones standard of living more towards the worldwide average?? (ie b8gger all)
