28688 2001-12-27 00:03:00 Just a bit of a query on heat sink sizes and fan speeds....celerons from 900mhz upwards are coming with absolutely massive heatsinks on them and larger fans that operate at lower RPM (about 2250rpm)than celerons of 800-850mhz that have smaller heatsinks and fans that run at 4500rpm. Now the question is can you run the smaller HSF in the Celeron 900's as I want to use a 900 in my partners computer but it is physicaly impossible to fit the larger HSF into her case. I am assuming that as the smaller HSF runs at twice the RPM of the larger HSF it will provide the same amount of cooling....or...is it a case of the 900's generating so much heat that that they need the larger HSF?? 28689 2001-12-27 00:42:00 what size heatsinks are you talking about here? i would consider massive as 80mmx80mm or larger. sub 1ghz intel cpu simply don't need anything that big unless you are an avid overclocker ;-)

you normally put big heatsink/slow fan setups on the make a pc quieter. i would put the small one on and then check to see what the temps are like. you won't fry it, at worse it will be a tad warmer. if its to warm then go buy a better heatsink.

if its the case thats in the way (not the mobo) it may be better to get a new case.

28690 2001-12-27 01:49:00 The HSF's they supply with the 900's are 80x70....as opposed to the 50x60 supplied with the 850's...the things the same size as the Taisol on my P3.

I would guess they are just trying to quieten things down
