28969 2001-12-29 00:48:00 I have just bought a 15 gig hdd because my 1.2gig one had bad sectors, anyway the bios will only recognise it as an 8 gig, i have rang a local computer guy and he says i can flash the bios but need a disk or something from a motherboard manufacturer whom i have no idea who that is. also he reckoned i cant run a 15 gig on my system anyway, i have a pentium 133. i have also seen something on here about partitioning it as like 2 or 3 drives, how is that done and any ideas how to get my full drive? 28970 2001-12-29 00:58:00 Why did you bother getting a new hard drive when you could get a new complete new computer system (duron about 850) for 700+gst, anyway, I think you need to put your setting to FAT32, that is if your motherboard supports it, so that it can recognize the full 15gigs.

Hope it helps, search for information regarding setting your motherboard to be FAT32 as it is very complicating and I cannot explain the whole process here, because I often take shortcuts that may do harm to your pc.

28971 2001-12-29 01:05:00 ~There use to be an 8.4GB maximum capacity in older BIOSes. The BIOS manufacturers came up with a new set of BIOS commands called Interrupt 13 extensions (INT13) that allows a maximum capacity of 137GB.

Can't wait till they need newer instructions ;-)

You will need to upgrade your BIOS or use an 'overlay' program. I believe every hard drive maker gives away special programs to enable an older, non-INT13 system to accept hard drives larger than 8.4GB.

Check the hard drive maker's Web site or check your BIOS or your computer's manufacturer for the latest BIOS update.

28973 2001-12-29 06:26:00 hi, thanks for your message, firstly i didnt buy the whole new computer because i dont have that much money, secondly it is fat32 Guest (0)
28974 2001-12-29 06:47:00 Disk Wizard will do the job if your drive is Seagate. There are equivalents for other H D manufacturers, and there is also a generic one. Guest (0)
