| 29255 | 2001-12-31 00:27:00 | I noticed ther has been a few people asking questions about The free version of Zone Alarm which I am curently using. I have found a site called 'Sheilds Up' which tests your computers 'sheilds and 'probs your ports' it then gives you a report of what happened. This is just some of what its had to say about my computer running Zona Alarm. <Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist! One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! > <Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer. All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) > ^I like that last comment and after the port scan: <If all of the tested ports were shown to have stealth status, then for all intents and purposes your computer doesn't exist to scanners on the Internet! > <It means that either your computer is turned off or disconnected from the Net (which seems unlikely since you must be using it right now!) or an effective stealth firewall is blocking all unauthorized external contact with your computer > It calls Zone alarm an effective Stealth firewall. If you want to test you computers security against atacks heres the address. grc.com scroll down and click on the sheilds up link. |

| 29258 | 2001-12-31 00:44:00 | Well I just went and did the tests, and achieved the same results as you. All I use is Norton Antivirus 2002. Must be OK. |

| 29260 | 2001-12-31 04:47:00 | Well after ditching Zonealarm after it caused me numerous problems, I'm now using Tiny's personal firewall, and the test provides the same results for me also... Either all our firewalls are pretty good, or the test is a have :) |

| 29261 | 2001-12-31 05:13:00 | most of the new ones are quite good. steves test is a very simple test of a few comman ports. zonealarm, tiny, sygate, norton are all good. they just have different features. the new beta sygate has a few really cool features but is still buggy(crash happy). the reason i still like zonealarm(even with its install/uninstall probs) is that it is simple. you don't need to learn all about protocols, icmp types and which ones to allow or not. |
