29252 2001-12-30 23:55:00 I've been trying unsuccessfully to install Red Hat Linux 7.1 from cdrom on an almost new system with no floppy drive (home built pc)... the installer seems to boot alright, but after selecting language and keyboard type etc, it spews back an error msg something like 'cdrom missing'...
I also run win2k (on a seperate partition) and my Ricoh CD-RW otherwise hasn't missed a beat so far. Red Hats web documentation says that the great majority of newish ide CD-RW's are supported - so I'm a bit stuck...

29253 2001-12-31 02:00:00 Seems strange ... I've got RH7.1 and it recognises a DVD with no cleverness, although I actually had a plain CD when I installed it. If it can boot from your CDRW, you should be OK to install from it.

Install scripts can fail in funny ways and the error messages are not always totally relevant. I have seen a strong suggestion that the RH7.1 install routine can fail if you have more than 32MB RAM.

If you are using the GUI install, try the text mode, or vice versa.

If neither works, try cutting the memory down -- only for the install. (I had only 32 MB when I installed RH7.1, but I have bumped it to 96 now).

Keep us informed on your progress.
