29227 2001-12-30 21:36:00 When I launch Windows Explorer it automatically dials my internet connection. Why, and how do I stop it? Guest (0)
29228 2001-12-30 22:22:00 What other internet related programs do you have installed?

eg file-sharing, firewall, browsers, email programs etc.

It is not likely to be explorer actually accessing it, but one of these other programs. I had a similar problem a while back, and I narrowed it down to my firewall searching for updates whenever I opened explorer (don't ask me why!).

29229 2001-12-30 22:54:00 try this-

- Step 1. Load Internet Explorer.
- Step 2. Select the 'Tools/Internet Options' menu item.
- Step 3. Select the 'Advanced' tab.
- Step 4. Check the item, 'Launch browser window in separate process' in the browsing section. Next time you launch Internet Explorer, ZoneAlarm will recognize it as Internet Explorer and use the correct icon.

Please note that the 'Launch browser in a separate process' option is no longer available in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01. After installing Internet Explorer 5.01, this setting is no longer configurable. The setting is automatically enabled or disabled based on the amount of memory installed in the computer.

29230 2001-12-30 23:16:00 ...maybe try this too:

Follow the first 3 Steps [as per directions given by Tweak`e] and as an extra Step.4 - disable (uncheck) the box marked 'Automatically check for Explorer Updates' then click Apply/Okay.

Good suggestions offered by Mike and Tweak`e: if you try only one of those items at a time it will assist you identifying which (if any) of them was your culprit.

Cheers!!!
