| 29124 | 2001-12-30 04:18:00 | I am currently running Norton version 4 with an upgrade planned in the new year. Dad's McAfee crashed the other day and we installed Norton 2002 on his machine (makes it easier with his non-functioning eyesight if we use the same programs). At the same time I installed a text to speech program. The problem is - as soon as he loads Windows he now automatically connects to the Internet. Is it more likely that Norton is doing this or the text program ATTS? |

If however he has started his voice recog prog and it is picking his voice well... (some take a while to pick up our accent) then try the NAV first.... Also check your Control Panel\Internet Options\Connections\ and make sure that always dial my default connection is checked and not dial whenever a dial up connection is not present.(thats my setting anyways). Hope it helps |

He's really clued up in DOS but dislikes Windows and suffers from deteriorating eyesight. The text to speech is a read only program. Highlight things, press Ctrl C and it reads it aloud. Quite neat really - except it wants you to upgrade from the free version to the paid one! (I'm actually being lazy here trying to solve the problem without looking at his computer). I'm just wondering if it's a feature of auto-protect in Norton to try and update as soon as Windows starts rather than as soon as you log on. |
