| 29205 | 2001-12-30 20:37:00 | I am running internet explorer 5.5. When using the autocomplete feature for web addresses, a pornographic web site address appears in the autocomplete listing. How can I remove it? I have cleared the history. All addresses are removed, leaving only the dodgy site behind. I have ceared the temporary internet files and all cookies. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling explorer. I am using windows ME, so I have also tried using system restore. None of these have worked. Any suggestions? |

| 29207 | 2001-12-30 22:19:00 | hmmm... :) Do you mean in the drop down list of websites? or when you actually start typing a web address and similar names appear? If its the drop down list, you'll need to open your system registry: Start > Run > regedit (and enter). Hit F3 and search for: TypedURLs (one word) or you can just scroll through until you find HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs then in the box on the right find the naughty web address, double click on it, and type in a new one (http://www.pressf1.co.nz/) and it'll disappear. If its the actual autocomplete function you could try turning off autocomplete altogether, or you could go into Tools>Internet Options, and find the Autocomplete settings, and click on Clear Forms and this should remove all the web addresses in there. |

| 29209 | 2001-12-31 01:17:00 | The address is not in the drop down list (typed URLs). When typing a similar web address it appears in the address bar as an autocomplete entry. I have previously cleared the typedURLs from the registry manually as suggested with no luck. Selecting Tools>Internet Options>General>Clear History clears all other autocomplete entries but not the offending address. Clearing forms as suggested has not worked. I guess because it is a web address and not a form. I have entered the web address into the search function of the registry and turned up nothing. The address seems to have logged itself in somewhere beyond my amateur abilities. I can turn the autocomlete option off, but I do prefer to use it without garbage like this in it. |
