29301 2001-12-31 10:43:00 HI, I am building a pc for the first time, and was sold a 1.2ghz FSB266 processor, yet my motherboard says it has FSB133 as a max. The place I bought it from said it would not be a problem, however on first boot - the system is powering up, but nothing is happening. That is nothing is coming up on teh screen, and no PC 'beep' when I power up.

Does anyone have nay ideas?

Thanks

Kerry

29302 2001-12-31 22:25:00 Hi Kerry

Apologies if youve already tried this but I would check the manual that came with the board and make sure all your jumper settings are correct. I would also check the bios settings before putting in the chip and changing the settings to default.
I wouldnt have thought that running a 266 chip on a 133 board would be a problem except that you wouldnt be getting the speed it was designed for.

You could also try going to the website of the board manufacturer and check for any bios updates.

You could ask someone to let you try your chip on a 266 motherboard - preferably the shop you bought it from just to check it isnt faulty.

It could be a core voltage problem. I think its more likely to be a jumper/bios problem as opposed to a faulty chip though it does happen.

I sure someone will correct me if im wrong.

29304 2002-01-01 00:20:00 Thanks Steve, It was one of the jumpers that I had set too high. Changed it back to 100mhz, and it is now working fine.

Thanks Anyway..
