| 29528 | 2002-01-02 05:07:00 | If I set my browser up so that it doesn't display images, when I print it still prints the images - which sometimes wastes a lot of colour ink when I only want the text. I know you can print only what you select with the cursor, but that's a bit awkward with frames. Any ideas? |

For instance the red/black PRESSF1 above and to the left of this column, the picture of NAV, etc. If I surf to this site with images switched off (for faster page loading), those will just be boxes with a little symbol in them, but amazingly, if I print the page the browser will go and get them anyway. |

| 29532 | 2002-01-02 11:35:00 | Thanks Bill. My printer is capable of taking selected text only, but sometimes I want everything on the page except the (colourful) pictures - I want all the text from all the frames, but it's not possible to select them without catching the pics in the way. Tried your method anyway - Word2000 is too smart - takes the gifs and formatting exactly as it appears in IE! I could scrape them all out, but it's more trouble than I want to go to. |

When you have the page pasted into Word, try selecting the items that don't need and hitting 'delete' button. In other words, clean it up leaving only the content that you want to print. Let me have the URL of a troublesome page and I'll see how I get on. Yes, some of the latest OS are too smart - I started out with ME in June, but upgraded to 98SE! :-) |

| 29535 | 2002-01-03 01:20:00 | Thanks to all for the suggestions, but it looks like I'm not going to get what I want - which is a permanent fix rather than a work-around. What I actually do at the moment is disconnect the modem so it can't get the gifs - this is effective, but then I've got to wait for the reconnection. I thought someone might know of a registry tweak or some such trickery. P.S. Susan - Although it doesn't quite fix my immediate problem, the cut/paste/TOC idea is intriguing and has possibilities - I'll experiment with that. |
