29439 2002-01-01 10:29:00 This may be an easy question. How is the cpu in a laptop kept cool? They are in such a small case, how could a heatsink and fan be managed to squeeze in to their. It's not like you could have 120mm case fans on the front and back.

29440 2002-01-01 11:20:00 hi JM,

they use baby heatsinks -flat with thin fins/bumps, a baby fan with variable speed, and CPU with speed-step features.

29441 2002-01-01 11:26:00 basicly the whole pc..or at least most of the case is one big heatsink. usually use a heatpipe to distribute the heat through out the heatsink. can also have a small thermal controlled fan to blow throw the sink when it gets to hot. also it can slow the cpu down to help keep it cool. you just have to love the technology in laptops :-)

and no sy thats not going to be your next overclocking project....lol

29442 2002-01-02 07:53:00 Thanks, I was just wondering how the hell they keep them cool.

PS Anyone ever fitted water-cooling to one.

29443 2002-01-03 00:47:00 And you have probably noticed that you get a hot lap if you put the laptop on it. The heat has to go somewhere. Guest (0)
29444 2002-01-03 05:14:00 I don't actually have a laptop, it was just with those posts from Mike Jerado about his cheap laptop. Everyone thought the laptop was 'hot' so I wondered how one would cool one.
