| 29736 | 2002-01-04 03:17:00 | Dear Sir or Madam, I recently purchased a Compac Deskpro EN-SFF machine. It is a PIII-500Mhz computer and came with 64 Meg of ram and 4 Meg of on-board video ram. I upgraded both and, while the computer automatically recognised the extra 128 Meg of Ram, it doesn't seem to have recognised the extra 4 Meg card of video ram. When I right-click on the Desk-Top, choose Properties, then Settings, then Advanced, and lastly the Adapter tab, I see that, under the Adapter/Driver information, that the memory is noted at 4 Meg whereas I think it should show 8 Meg. I removed the 4 Meg card and re-installed it but the Adapter/Driver information shows the memory as still being 4 Meg. I've checked under System and also MSD in DOS and in the BIOS screen, but I can't find any mention of the video ram, apart from the Adapter/Driver information, as above. I would be grateful for any help you can give me with this problem. Thanking you, Frank Munns. fcmunns@xtra.co.nz |

B) Although I don't know this driver intimately, you could try seeing if there is an 8Mb version of the driver (long shot) or at least update the driver for it. Might even consider replacing the video driver with standard VGA then install the proper one again. Good luck, robo. |

If so, there could be a jumper near the chips to select the amount of memory. Compaq are pretty good about having a label either inside the box lid or underneath the box showing such jumpers. |

The 4 meg module that I purchased came from Kingston whose products are usually pretty good. I didn't find any jumpers and jumpers are not mentioned in the system manual which I downloaded from Compac either. It just said to install it and it would be recognised at boot-up. I have now downloaded a later video driver from Compac and the memory associated, under properties/resources, adds up to 16 meg + with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 at 32 bit. I'm happy with that. Thanks again, Frank. |
