29960 2002-01-06 04:08:00 When I first start my computer a window comes up and wants a password. How doI stop this from coming up.
I have Windows 98 second edition.

29961 2002-01-06 05:16:00 I'm running ME but it should be very similair...go start/settings/control panel/passwords then choose change passwords and enter the new password as nothing...in other words do NOT enter anything just hit the enter key. you may also have your user profiles activated which will ask you for passwords etc...this is also in your control panel and just reset that back to the original Guest (0)

I presume you are not operating on a network. If this is correct, right click the network Icon on your desktop, select properties and change your 'Primary network Logon' from 'Client for Microsoft Networks' to 'Windows Logon'.

This will get rid of the logon/password box and your computer will boot directly to your desktop.

Cheers

29963 2002-01-06 20:08:00 Hello Sylvia,
if you are not running a network, when the password is asked for, just leave the space blank, click ok.

cheers,
