29939 2002-01-05 23:55:00 When I receive mail from my Penpals to my Hotmail account the mail will usually go into Bulk Mail folder Why? Occasionally it will go into the Inbox & then I have trouble opening the mail Why? Does Hotmail delete messages after a certain time even though I have put these messages into a folder I have created for storage? What folders should I have synchronized in either/both OE or hotmail. 29940 2002-01-06 01:32:00 Hotmail while handy does have a few limitations....one of these is the severe lack of storage available and also a limit of I beleive 1.5mb for incoming mail. I have had no end of trouble getting hotmail to actually let me in and so have gone to netscape and I'm using their mail service. Not only do I have a lot more storage space but it is quicker to access and gives me an alternative browser to use when I get sick of IE. I suggest trying netscape and use your hotmail address for all the times sites ask for your email addy when you are surfing the net...this way all your junk mail goes to one place and all the mail you actually want goes to another....lots easier. Another advantage of netscape is that the majority of viruses are aimed at microsoft products...IE and outlook and so netscape does avoid a few straight away. Guest (0)
29941 2002-01-06 05:06:00 ...i will try to answer each of your 4 questions, one at a time:

-------------------

Q: ...'When I receive mail from my Penpals to my Hotmail account the mail will usually go into Bulk Mail folder Why?...'

A: Several things can cause this and they could be the topic of a another useful posting. My response however will only focus on preventing individual messages from your Penpal/s mail from doing so in the future:

(i) log-in to 'Home' of your Hotmail Account concerned and click on the OPTIONS tab. This will open up a page full of different setting you can make. Our interest here is with the 'Mail Handling' options in the centre column.

(ii) open the SAFE LIST option

(iii) one at a time, 'Copy & paste' or Type those eMail addresses of your Penpals [which go to your Bulk/Trash folder] into the Window and click 'Add' and then 'OK'. Done.

(iv) I would suggest you also have a look at what level your filters are set to - open JUNK MAIL FILTER. You have four (4) choices: Off / Low / High / Exclusive. Click on each of them in turn and the Window will explain what each level achieves.

I cannot advise or recommend a choice - that will be your personal preference.

------------------

Q:...'Occasionally it will go into the Inbox & then I have trouble opening the mail Why?...'

A: to answer this i would need more detail of the exact 'trouble' you encounter.

-------------------

Q: ...'Does Hotmail delete messages after a certain time even though I have put these messages into a folder I have created for storage?'...

A: Hotmail will not delete messages from folders you have created for storage - but be mindful that these stored messages combine to use up the maximum amount of space Hotmail allows you. Consider using the Synchrosnisation function inside your Outlook Express to download these messages to your computer and then move/or save them to another location.

-------------------

Q: ...'What folders should I have synchronized in either/both OE or hotmail'...

A: It is only necessary to Check (enable) 'All Messages' for the INBOX when Synchronising your Hotmail Account/s *inside* Outlook Express.

-------------------

TIP: Although somewhat confusing at first, it is well worth the time spent reading the Help Files at Hotmail.com to learn and understanding how the various filters and functions in your Hotmail work. In addition, the Outlook Express Help file provides much useful information.

-------------------

I hope this has been of some assistance.

Cheers!!!
