| 29769 | 2002-01-04 08:11:00 | I use netscape and am connected to xtra. After a couple of minutes it disconects. Can this be altered so that I am constantly on line? I live in a rural area would this cause the problem? Many thanks. | Guest (0) | ||

A faulty phone somewhere in the house and connected to the same line as your modem. Try disconnecting all phones. 4. Make sure your connection software is not set to disconnect after 10 minutes. Depending on what you are using it should be easy enough to find, normally in options. 6. If you are using a dual socket telephone line adapter (one for the modem, one for the phone), try plugging the phone direct into the wall jack and by pass the adapter. Sometimes the adapters can cause a problem. Similarly if you have an extension cable. Try changing it in case its the cause. 6. Dynalink put out a modem for rural use, meant to handle line noise better. 7.If you have a long line run from the road to the house and the power cables were put in the same trench and too close to the telephone cable, they can sometimes cause an induction noise which will cut the modem. This can sometimes be heard in the telephone as a hiss. Similar to line noise. Hope one of these helps, I have been through it all myself so know how frustrating it is. Good luck. Sergio |

I had been trying your no5 but hadn't succeeded but when you said it was possible I hunted further and have found and altered the setting. Kind regards. Nicky |
