29945 2002-01-06 01:33:00 When I open in DOS I get the following,
C:\>C:GNET95\DOS\GMOUSE.com

and then a box with mouse driver details. I get no response from any key strokes just a flashing cursor. HOW do I get round this ? ? ? ?

29946 2002-01-06 02:03:00 When you go to DOS you end up in some random directory - in your case the mouse directory.

Sometimes, for some unknown reason, the keyboard doesn't work (no matter which directory you're in). Exit DOS (by typing 'exit' - without the quote marks) and try again. If still no luck, turn off the computer, turn it on again and see if it works.

Which operating system are you using?

How did you get to DOS? Start, Run, Command?

29947 2002-01-06 02:53:00 I'm using 'Win.95' and I open Dos using the 'start-shutdown-open in dos' method. I can't type exit as there's NO response to the keyboard at all ! ! ! I need to edit the sacan disc auto start and can't access it thru dos at the moment :-( Guest (0)
29948 2002-01-06 03:39:00 I have a feeling that you bought that computer secondhand, and it was used with some odd DOS-based network. The DOS startup is trying do network things.

Boot into W95, and use Notepad (NOT Write, or Word) to edit c:\autoexec.bat and c:\config.sys. You won't need a mouse driver in DOS, and I think that GMOUSE.COM is locking up -- probably not finding the mouse it expects.

If you are not confident about killing things in these files, just comment them out. You can insert a 'REM' at the start of any autoexec.bat line you can't see a reason for, and a ';' for such lines in Config.sys.

Your keyboard does not have a driver to be installed. It's all hardware. It works in DOS if it was working in W95.

That line you see on the screen is the first command in autoexec.bat. You can certainly REM that one out. If you are keen, you can put a line ahead of that one: '@echo off' when you have got it working. (It helps to have an autoexec.bat file, even if it does nothing -- it stops the system from asking for date and time).

If you are still worried, post the contents of those two files, and someone will tell you what to zap.
