29819 2002-01-04 23:16:00 Hi,

Shortly after the New Year our computer began showing the blue screen of death. The message given was 'An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0020BE2 in VxD IFSMGR(01) + 000035BA. This was called from 0028:COFEFA18 in VxD PPPMac(01) + 00004570' Fearing that the registry had been corrupted I reinstalled Windows however the errors still appeared. I have finally tracked the error down to a conflict with my new ISP (paradise.net) and my email client (Netscape). When sending mail through paradise (smtp.paradise.net.nz) the blue screen appears. This error did not occur when sending mail through voyager and does not occur with Xtra. Paradise help desk were confused with this error and could offer no help.

I am running Windows 95 SP1, MS Plus, Netscape 4.73. In an attempt to resolve this problem I have also installed Netscape 4.75 and DUN 1.4 however the problem persists.

Can anyone experienced a similar problem or can offer any suggestions?

29820 2002-01-05 02:36:00 Maybe it's the Y2002 bug.

Do paradise use SMPT, and xtra use POPx ? Protocols matter.

Or for a really stupid idea: smpt.paradise.net.nz is longer than anything with xtra.co.nz, so try giving the IP address rather than the name. A buffer overflow should not happen there, but ... '20 characters is enough for a mail server name'.

29821 2002-01-05 05:26:00 Hello Tristan, I did a bit of a search on your problem, and found you are not alone with Win95/Netscape-email-blue screens.
I browsed through this site:

www.computing.net

One thing to come up was a suggestion to upgrade the win95 winsock to winsock2, from:

www.microsoft.com

This was reported to cure the blue screen problem when trying to send e-mail.

I think Paradise are very much geared to Internet Explorer/Outlook Express and later Windows OS.

I use a very small e-mail client called Foxmail (it fits on a floppy) which works very well indeed and no problems with smtp.paradise.net.nz

So if all else fails a change of email client maybe the answer.
