| 30035 | 2002-01-06 13:39:00 | Has anyone else used 'Edexter' and the 'host' file to get rid of those pesky adverts which slow down your cruising. The 'host' file contains the web address of the advert supplier and points it to '127.0.0.1' which is normaly your own computer, 'Edexter' then supplies the browser with a graphic which you can supply. It works well. |

| 30036 | 2002-01-06 20:34:00 | 'Pesky web advertising' helps keep this FREE forum running. If our advertisers don't have the ability to advertise to you and they stop advertising with us, then this site stops running. Sorry guys, but it's a commercial reality. We really do want to do it for the love of it, but unfortunately, love don't pay Robo's wages, or the costs associated with the sites. We try to keep our sites free of pop-ups and annoying ads, but hope you accept the banner and skyscraper ads we run (which have strictly regulated file sizes). Please respect our advertisers, as they're helping to pay for the free site you use. Kind Regards, Kerry Dodds Online Campaign Director IDG Online Network |

| 30037 | 2002-01-06 21:35:00 | I have found the adverts on this site inoffensive but on some sites you get several large adverts which really do slow things down a lot and with the host file you can choose which sites to block for adverts. | Guest (0) | ||
| 30038 | 2002-01-06 22:28:00 | the old age debate of ads vers no ads ;-) joy! as pcworld well knows my hostfile is still working sweet.(is the ad problem fixed) the only catch with some of the ready made hostfiles is that they will block out some good sites such as nortons update sites. you just have to find which site needs to be unblocked and edit the host file. you can use hostess for importing and editing the host file. have you got a url for the 'edexter' ?? |
