30212 2002-01-07 22:36:00 I wish to make (burn) CD audio disks for use in common home CD players.
Question ? Do you have to purchase CD-R audio disks at approx $4.50 or will the much cheaper basic CD-R disks work just as well for this task??. And just as a query, If you do not need the more expensive disks what is their purpose?

30213 2002-01-07 23:13:00 The 'basic' disks are all you need. The Audio ones are for use in the stand-alone (non computer) recorders eg in stereo systems. They cost more as a royalty is paid to the recording industry. The stereo systems require the use of the audio disks. Guest (0)
30214 2002-01-08 01:59:00 Hi, same as above, the audio CDR's are for some of the newer mini/midi systems that have a cd writer built in to it. Also the cdr's you should buy are verbatim, they are dark blue underneath and anything can read them without skipping, gold are the worst and green also skip sometimes. Guest (0)
30215 2002-01-08 02:42:00 Here it is in plain english:

It all depends on your stereo. Basically the newer and higher the quality of the laser in your stereo, the cheaper the disc you can buy.

The previous posters were correct, but my suggestion to you is to buy the cheapest disc available in ones or twos. try it, and if it works, then buy a bunch of them to take advantage of bulk buying discounts. If they don't work try a different brand that is a little more expensive till you find one that does. My stereo seems to like any old disc, but my sisters cheaper system will only take the more expensive discs.
