30442 2002-01-09 12:14:00 NVIDIA has released unified drivers for their nForce chipset. The new drivers will now allow users to keep there motherboard up-to-date like they do their video cards. Here's a bit from the announcement of the release: www.nvidia.com
Today, NVIDIA has extended its Unified Driver Architecture to the nForce platform by releasing the new nForce Unified Driver Package (UDP) v1.0, a comprehensive set of graphics, audio, networking, and memory subsystem drivers, providing optimal performance for all nForce-based retail motherboards and PC systems.
Extending our unified software support philosophy to our platform products allows NVIDIA to introduce performance enhancements and new features to our customers, system builders, and end-users quickly and efficiently. The nForce Unified Driver Package v1.0 also delivers a variety of system performance enhancements including improved broadband connectivity and graphics performance, and support for EAX. Audio Technology v2.0, a widely used environmental audio engine.
NVIDIA's nForce UDP is forward and backward compatible with all nForce-based products. The benefits of NVIDIA's nForce UDP include:
* Reduced hardware/driver conflicts-every driver is thoroughly
tested with all previous products, and new products are even tested with old drivers.
* Decreased maintenance time-ability to update the entire system in one pass.
* Increased scalability-upgrading products, adding new hardware, and taking advantage of performance improvements is simplified when the graphics, networking, and audio solutions are based on NVIDIA hardware and software technologies.

There is an updated version of Symantec LiveUpdate out. This new version (1.70) supersedes the version (1.64) that comes with all 2002 products. LiveUpdate is the Symantec technology that permits an installed Symantec product to connect to a Symantec server over the Internet to check for program and other updates such as virus definitions and URL lists.
New in version 1.70:
1. Security. When LiveUpdate downloads the catalog of available updates it will now check for a Symantec digital certificate and only proceed with the update process if the file was signed by Symantec. In addition, the cryptographic signatures are verified for all updates that are downloaded before they are applied to the machine.
2. Windows XP compatibility. This version of LiveUpdate has been fully tested on the Windows XP operating system. We have no known incompatibilities with this new OS at this time.
3. Improved logging. As with any application that uses the Internet, LiveUpdate will sometimes fail due to the prevailing Internet conditions. In an effort to improve the troubleshooting process we have improved the logging feature in LiveUpdate. In addition, we now write critical security events to the NT Event Log.

30445 2002-01-09 23:25:00 hi graeme.

if you don't use the cooling aspect of cpucool then just use mbm5. check how well the cooling part actualy works. on mine the effect is minimal.
