30641 2002-01-10 12:17:00 Hi Colin.
Tweak'e recommended a program called Window Washer available from www.webroot.com
I downloaded and tried it. Pretty good. You can clear manually or on startup or on close down.Worth a look.

Cheers.

30642 2002-01-10 12:26:00 Sorry. Got it wrong. B C recommended Window Washer, not tweak'e.

Cheers.

30644 2002-01-10 19:32:00 Windows does a pretty good job.

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Options.

In the General heading you can select the second block down to 'delete Internet files' and the third down you can delete 'History'.

You can select also the number of days that the history should remain on the computer before it automatically deletes the history.

30647 2002-01-10 21:51:00 I agree with the post about going into internet options.

Also for real security add this line to your autoexec.bat
deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1\index.dat

and if you want you clear up the files you leave behind as well then add this line underneath that last one.

deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1\*.*

You need the line deleting index.dat bacause you needto name it to delete it.

deltree /y c:\windows\cookies\index.dat

deltree /y c:\windows\cookies\*.*

The above for cookies. This way you don't even have to think about clearing up after yourself. It'll happen every time you restart. (the first time you restart it will take a while to start, don't worry)

30648 2002-01-11 01:18:00 Hi

I run most of those above mentioned lines as a batch file from DOS when I want to clear out the trash.

I thought however that it was unwise to include them (esp the temp file one) in your startup- as sometimes when you install a program it writes a temp file which is used when you re-boot to finish the installation of that program?

Correct me if Im wrong, ta
