1286923 2012-07-08 06:20:00 For a long time we have had a laptop connected to the TV to watch movies etc, worked fine. We got sick of transferring stuff from the desktop computer to the laptop. I have a move around and shifted my tower computer to the TV. I restarted both the TV and the computer. The TV started out fine, showing the start up etc. The minute my desktop showed up on the Comp monitor, my TV screen went blank. Apparently Windows did this with an error code 43. It does not recognise my TV in the screen settings where you would choose duplicate on two monitors. I don't even have that option. My TV is HDMI capable but I don't understand what that is. I have tried changing the TV channel, going through AV1 AV2 AV3 and HDMI PC HDMI1 HDMI2 HDMI3. What can I do to make this work? Any-all help appreciated.:( ollieogg (6593)

1286925 2012-07-08 06:22:00 HDMI is audio/video. If you want to use it, plug the HDMI cable into the videocard and into the TV. Are the videocard drivers installed? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1286926 2012-07-08 06:31:00 Hi Speedy, we have a cord that has ends like the old printers back in the day. I have no idea what it is called. I tried updated the drivers for the card but it said they were all up to date. ollieogg (6593)
1286927 2012-07-08 06:34:00 I found the HDMI out on older ATI cards like your one didn't work with a lot of TVs. I was never able to use my onboard HDMI with my TV (or most other TVs I tried it with) but it works perfectly with my new graphics card.

I also found that the Panasonic TVs that did work with my PC would only work at a maximum resolution of 1024x768 (not 720 or 1080)

Sounds like you are using VGA. That should be labelled as "PC" on your TV

1286928 2012-07-08 06:49:00 So there is nothing I can do, apart from a new computer? ollieogg (6593)
1286929 2012-07-08 07:12:00 Well you could try getting the setup right (if it isn't)

Have a look here en.wikipedia.org and report back with:

> What you have plugged into on the TV
> What you have plugged into the computer

You could get a different graphics card, or setup streaming from the desktop to laptop which would be cheaper but methinks there is a setting issue awry somewhere. I don't think new hardware is required unless you have and want to spend money

1286930 2012-07-08 10:18:00 I would recommend trying HDMI - you can pick up a cheap cable off trademe or from jaycar that will work just as well as the expensive HDMI cables. If it doesn't work through HDMI, just hold onto the cable until you are ready to buy a new graphics card - should work then.

Your parts seem a bit old to be running Windows 7 - did you upgrade from Vista? If so, did you do a clean install when you upgraded to Win7?
