Your are correct, but that is why I am asking.

Basically, I'm helping a, very small, Church get on the net.

Setting up a website is gona cost money, that they don't have, so set up a Facebook page.

Was wondering how that could be access, via search engines.

I only use Google, but know there are others.

1286579 2012-07-07 09:49:00 Meta data and relevant content.

There are free hosting solutions that will be better than a facebook page by a long shot! If any half decent company gave FB as their main web contat i'd say what a joke. Good to be on facebook but not as your main page I should think.

1286580 2012-07-07 10:11:00 Generally Facebook is used to engage with clients/customers and referred (i.e. linked) to a main web site or blog. To get visibility in Google organic search results involves SEO and a bit of content marketing. Or pay by using Adwords (accounts.google.com) to advertise on search results and other websites. Depending on the goals of the web site - usually conversions, whatever you want that to be (sales, followers, info, downloads, etc).

As Error Guy says having a free hosting platform to start, e.g Wordpress, Blogger, Google Sites, etc. Google has published a SEO basic guide (static.googleusercontent.com) (pdf) on how to get visibility and attract visitors in Google. seoMoz (www.seomoz.org) has a slightly advanced Guide. Both are referenced a lot from SEM/SEO blogs. Generally it all starts from finding what people are searching for that you think are relevant, of which many use Google's Keyword Tool. (adwords.google.com) Guide here. (searchengineland.com) Then build quality content, and maybe try get relevant back-links, then promotion in social media, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Directories, local community blogs, etc. Content marketing and SEO has increased a lot lately. Ideas here. (www.toprankblog.com) Sometimes you need follow the algorithms (www.seomoz.org) and adjust (legitimately) accordingly.
