1263814 2012-03-08 20:00:00 Hi all,

I need a big favour to get some data for my son's school assignment regarding recycling. Five questions, 1 sentence answers, should only take 5 minutes. However I need some answers from teenagers 13 - 18 years old.

A big thankyou if you can help. So here we go...

1. Why do you/do you not recycle?

2. What do you recycle?

3. Have you always recycled?

4. What did you do with your household waste before recycling was encouraged?

5. Do you like recycling?

And thats it. Once again thankyou.

Regards
DD

1263815 2012-03-08 20:08:00 I'm not 18 but a bit older mid 40's

1 I recycle because I know the plants resources are not endless

2 everything that I can paper, glass, plastics, cardboard

2a food scraps get recycled by the chickens who turn it into eggs

3 no I only started when recycling took off I did in the UK as we had a bottle bank next to the supermarket, here only when kerbside recycling came along there was no recycling in Nelson before then

4 it went to the landfill

5 yes it's not exciting or even glamorous but needs to be done unless the costs in resources outweigh the resources used in making new products, a difficult call especially when its hard to get real information from big businesses

1263817 2012-03-08 23:24:00 1. Why do you/do you not recycle?
To make compost.
Because you can't put cabs/bottles in normal bin now.

2. What do you recycle?
Mostly compost type stuff.
Some milk bottles

3. Have you always recycled?
Garden waste - yes. The rest - no.

4. What did you do with your household waste before recycling was encouraged?
Bin or milk bottles git re-used anyway.

5. Do you like recycling?
Garden waste - yes. The rest? It's crap, NZ doesn't recycle most of it anyway, most gets dumped, some gets shipped overseas. Might have a point if they really did do it.

Or how about going back to how it was - glass bottles that actually got reused and so on. Instead of this BS.

1263818 2012-03-08 23:39:00 1. To reuse plastics & metals etc

2. plastics, glass, metals

3. Ever since the council gave up those recycle bins
(perhaps not a very good question, nobody has ALLWAYS recycled)

4. In the bin

5. huh ?? I cant say I LIKE it. I dont dislike it either. AS with PCTek, I know most it it is BS . Recycling is not a clean industry, in fact its rather nasty. Especially when alot gets shipped overseas

1263819 2012-03-09 02:13:00 Only wished I was back in that age bracket, lol.

1. Why do you/do you not recycle?

City bylaw, case of having to.

2. What do you recycle?

Green bin for all compost able materials.
Yellow bin for all glass/plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, newspapers, a total of 24 items.

3. Have you always recycled?

No

4. What did you do with your household waste before recycling was encouraged?

Council rubbish bin/rubbish bags.

5. Do you like recycling?

Love doing it, I think my old hometown Dannevirke was the first to recycle for making compost.

Lurking.

1263820 2012-03-11 01:28:00 Thanks folks. My son is eternally grateful. He will come around and thank every one of you (ok, maybe not). I could send my mother-in-law around to thank you PCTek but she might be difficult to get rid of... ;0) ok I didn't mean it mother-in-law. dolby digital (5073)
1263821 2012-03-11 04:31:00 1. Yes, because it conserves finite resources.

2. Paper, glass, plastics, and metal.

3. For as many years as there have been collections.

4. Limited recycling was possible, composting was common, but anything burnable went in the incinerator (remember them?) and the rest went to landfill.

5. Yes.

Cheers
