1264163 2012-03-11 23:58:00 Just referring to that link Erayd -- its basically saying fix it your self because we cant be stuffed.
If you can't understand what is being said in that link which is almost if not the same as one Chill has posted you really do have a problem with comprehension.

I understand it perfectly -- some points that are made can be seen as insulting to people who don't know how to to things -- EVERYONE has to learn whenit comes to doing something new.

I often hear it - I ask why didn't they look it up on google - the answer 9/10 is along the lines of " I dont know how to use google and didn't want to ask as others will think Im stupid"

You want a challenge -- go take the challenge I posted about doing tasks. I'd bet there would be parts missed. ;)

1264165 2012-03-12 00:07:00 Depends on the forum (e.g. one geared towards Linux kernel development is almost certainly the wrong place to be asking if you're having problems booting your PC). Assuming you're actually asking in the right place, and as long as it's clear you're not expecting to be spoonfed, good help usually pretty easy to find, and won't assume you're already an expert (although most will assume you have read the relevant documentation).
I have ended up communicating with one of the top dogs of an OS project and found him to be most helpful this was after trying to post on the relevant forum but being a first time poster the spam protection disallowed me posting what I needed to.

1264166 2012-03-12 00:09:00 Google takes practice itself, may sound stupid but it does. Knowing what phrases to search for and what results to look at requires some knowledge that some people looking for help just don't have.
I myself use google first and the forums second, but I understand why some are the other way around.

I thought that was because people were being lazy and didn't want to bother doing extensive searching.

1264168 2012-03-12 00:12:00 When I'm looking for a solution to something I dont know, google is always the first place, sometimes you can spend days searching. wainuitech (129)
1264169 2012-03-12 00:15:00 This is one reason why Linux will never be a popular as in a home user environment, when you ask for help, expect insults like highlighted above, instead of actual help.
I think it is time to get that bee out of your bonnet and read that link again because it applies to Windows as much as Linux and it is just sounding like you are having a rant.

No not having a rant, no idea if you have read the complete thread, but I have mentioned that there is nothing wrong with linux, I use it myself, others have also said its not that easy sometimes, and I have also said a couple of times that getting help for any OS can be hard.

Just from past experiences, getting help for windows is easier than getting help for linux.

You seem to be deliberately ignoring to read or comprehend the key word that I have used several times, so I'll put in in bold SOMETIMES finding help is hard.

Wanna borrow my reading glasses ?

1264171 2012-03-12 00:29:00 Two of the software packages I use would be hard to use under Linux even with Wine I suspect. One is Solidworks which can also be quite resource hungry if your doing large assemblies the other is MYOB which I could probably get going with Wine.

However it would take a fair bit of messing about to get them to work as they are Windows programs and under Windows they just work. I could probably find an alternative to MYOB for Linux but don't think any open source CAD program would be as powerful as Solidworks.

I would make the switch if it was practicable as I already have a Linux file server
I have not had much to do with MYOB so I'm not sure if GNUCash would work or not but it is quite a good program.
As for CAD you could have a look at Briscad (www.bricsys.com). I have never come across Solidworks so can't compare.
