| 1264528 | 2012-03-12 07:36:00 | I remember my mother owned a Austin A50 which was bought brand new. There used to be dealers in Invercargill for Austin, Volksxwagen and perhaps other British cars. Japanese cars were a rarity in the late 1950s. Now the tide has turned and there are a lot of Japanese car dealers around and British car dealers are a rarity. | Bobh (5192) | ||
| 1264529 | 2012-03-12 18:51:00 | We have owned an A30, Morris Oxford, Austin Cambridge A60. All required repairs every 6 months. The motor would do 100000 miles. That's it, Dead. Wheel bearings lasted about 5 minutes. Switches - shall I mention Lucas switches? Still, I did like the Cambridge. It was as solid as. Was hit by a bus in it, had a Valiant pull out on me....tiny little minor dents in the Cambridge were the results. The Valiant on the other hand..... |

Once they were on a level playing field they got what they had so richly earned, and vanished from the market. GST being levied equally did what Lucas had to do on its own up to then - stopped the new british cars in their tracks. | R2x1 (4628) | ||
