| 1263798 | 2012-03-08 10:03:00 | According to the Westport news we will get 2 towers here in Karamea, one day. They will be Vodaphone. Will we get Telecom XT mobile coverage off this? Sick of intermittant xt coverage. At least my 11m antenna helps. mind you the tower is 65km away! Anyone out there with some timeline for this? Hello, ....Chorus? ... Downers? ......anyone? :eek: |

| 1263799 | 2012-03-08 10:33:00 | :eek: That's one of the reasons I like Karamea - no cellphone reception! | fred_fish (15241) | ||
| 1263800 | 2012-03-08 10:53:00 | I was in South Westland last week. Had no cellphone reception. A local told me that they only got satelite internet which they paid through the nose for. | Bobh (5192) | ||

I have had comments like yours from one or two here, who would prevent one being installed no matter the wishes of the rest of us. The vast majority of residents and nearly all the trampers who come through are keen for some cell site goodness.(I used to drive the bus here, so I have some knowledge about this) It'll still be a great place and you can always switch yours off :) |

| 1263802 | 2012-03-08 23:02:00 | :lol: I didn't mean to come across as wanting to deny you service or prevent installation of said tower. It just strikes me as a small reduction to the 'isolation' that I think is part of the beauty of the place. Obviously, being a "visitor" as opposed to a "resident" colours that viewpoint somewhat, and yes, really, it would be good to be able to connect without being knee deep in the surf to see around the bluff, and will definitely be a positive for the town. As another plus, you could make some extra cash by knitting some tinfoil headwear to sell to the section of the population that will oppose it vehemently. :devil |

Is Granity closest tower? |

| 1263804 | 2012-03-09 00:13:00 | Fred, I know what you mean about the isolation it was why I came here in the beginning. Karamea is a fabulous place, like going back in time in some ways. But, I would like webs that work more reliably than this (I know, just self interest really). I don't want a landline even though it is at the gate. A t-stick is good 'cause we travel a bit and you can't take a landline with you. Prefect I connect via the Mount Rochfort tower as it is higher than Granity's one But to do so I have had to put up an 11m antenna when we get our own cell tower I can maybe take it down. |

I did get as far as Lake Rochfort but did not carry onto the top. I still feel guilty about not carrying on to the top. | Bobh (5192) | ||
