1263785 2012-03-08 06:01:00 Hi, is anyone aware of the prices for these things? I know there is the Brother HL-2250DN. Been bit hesitant with this brand in the past. Do the toner do equiv. pages of other printers like HP or Canon? When it is low on toner does the printer still let you pint at your own discretion or does it barr you?

:thanks

Edit - HL-2270DW it is at $159 at DSE. Lesser than that 2250.

1263786 2012-03-08 06:28:00 I have a Brother 2250DN myself, it works nice, only problem I have is when the paper runs out it wont print - :D Wonder why :rolleyes:lol.

The toner lasts quite a while, and mine gets used quite a bit every day, never had a problem.

AFAIK most printers will stop printing at a certain toner/ink level as a safety measure. No pint in printing if its going to do damage to the internal parts.

The 2250DN from memory, last time the toner warning light came up , printed another ream of paper before it finally stopped and a new cartridge had to be installed.

Previously I had a Lexmark, and to be honest, the brother has better print quality.

1263787 2012-03-08 07:54:00 I just got a brother DCP-7065DN multifunction from PBtech for about $185 and I'm quite impressed with it, haven't had it all that long so I can't comment on long term, but it prints fast and in good quality and does a pretty good job as a B&W copier.
I don't print much though, I just got this because my inkjet always runs out of ink without me getting around to using it, not sure if it dries up or evaporates but either way it stops printing in one or more colours. I decided I never really need to print in colour and got this instead.

1263788 2012-03-08 08:26:00 "Duplex" is the fancy term for double sided printing (just beware the trap of "Manual Duplex" - where you have to turn over the paper yourself.

Lasers won't come to any harm whatsoever running on a drum without any toner.

There's a trick to covering the window onto the side of the cartridge to get more printing after the point where the machine refuses to go any further.

Bleed a laser till the printout goes streaky or faint.

1263789 2012-03-08 08:29:00 The Brother HL-2250DN - High Yield toner 2,600 pages @ 5% coverage (roughly* $99 + GST), Standard Toner 1,200 pages @ 5% coverage (roughly* $60 + GST). * = Depending where you get your ink from.
I dont see any other printer in the same price range that does networking & duplex to compare.

1263790 2012-03-08 08:33:00 We are thinking about it. The HL-2270DW might be better, higher model yet cheaper at DSE, it's the lowest on Pricespy as well. Does RJ45, USB and Wireless.

At the moment, we have a Canon laser MF. It works I guess. It is a manual duplex if you can call it that, not so sure about in the driver but certainly it has a manual feed slot that you can use but it can jam. We don't really do that much I may need to do some each week with the lecture slides. I just printed single sided last year and the paperweight issue.....

I have also noticed on this one it may print half of one page and quickly reprints it again or it may print 15 pages and then just stop responding until you turn it off/on and send the job thru again. Anyone had this issue with printers before

1263791 2012-03-09 06:35:00 In your experience do you get or have gotten issues with:
the odd page may print incorrectly so reprints again by itself and,
if you print a document out after 20 or 30 pages it may just stop responding and requires a hard reboot?
