1263720 2012-03-08 00:40:00 We don't think we will try brocolli anymore. Maybe I got the small variety but there's far too many crawly things. Have tried some insecticide doesn't work. You should see it, all the leaves are gone including that center stem of the leave. We need to wear glasses to clean the crawly things out and even so they might be left over in the pot afterwards ...

We had good success with rocket, chilli's, tomatoes. Snowpeas doesn't grow enough. Lettuce was really good.

Lettuce is a type that you grow once only right  I heard some people just trim the leaves off and it regrows? Any other suggestions that is easy to grow? Do you guys have any that is perennial?

White butterfly - their larvae eat all brassicas. Derris Dust works.
Lettuce - depends what sort - those fancy lettuce types you can pick bits off as you go.

Carrots, well it's a root vege so not branches or new bits, just your carrot.

Potatoes - depends how many you want to grow - loads, yep, plenty of space, a few for new potatoes, not that much room.

I generally stick to what I can preserve - dwarf beans, get heaps off them, peas, tomatoes, celery.
I also grow a few other things just because, corn- cause it's better fresh, although that needs a fair bit of room.
Capsicums cause I can. Herbs. Fruit.
But mostly stuff that I can do things with rather than just getting a huge amount of something and it isn't suitable for long term keeping.

1263726 2012-03-08 04:37:00 Woops - my mother cut that fancy lettuce right on the bottom like how ice bergs are cut .... that one is gone then. Have a few more, will just trim the leaves.

So okay, it is also the green worms that hide itself inside the brocolli - do derris dust still work? May not want to grow them. I loose my appetite. So its brocolli, cabbage, and I take it bok choi, silverbeet, spinach and the like

Tomatoes and fancy lettuce and herbs are unscathed even with our last storm :D Still standing tall. May get into the onions, beans, pumpkin, marrows and carrots. Yep was thinking a bit more spuds maybe not then!

I just was looking for real experience. I have that website bookmarked. It says brocolli was easy. Well they do germinate and grow, un-eatable.

:thanks:

No.

Broccoli, cauli, cabbage, brussell sprouts. - Brassicas.

Not silverbeet, lettuce, spinach, bok choy.
