| 30769 | 2002-01-11 08:44:00 | Thanks for the answers from Gerard and e_ . Have done what you said but problem is still there (floppy drive sounding like machine gun fire for about 5 secs every time I start up.) I've tried disabling 'search for new floppy drive' under the performance tab in the file system but every time I go back to it the check box is ticked again. I've also turned off the 'floppy seek at boot up' under the bios setup. Any clues?? |

My advice is thus.. Go search for a programme(free)called Filemon.. Its a file monitoring program that track disk access saying who access what and when.Using this you will find what application is causing you grief and then you can deal to that application with the fustration it truly deserves. ==Orac== |

If you have opened or saved files from the floppy disk directly, there could very well be a history item or shortcut that points to the drive and Windows is trying to update that link each time it starts. The fix might be as simple as clearing your recent documents list. TweakUI from MS can comprehensively delete recent links and shortcuts. Another possibility could be your antivirus software is trying to scan the floppy on startup. The fix there would be to change the preferences to turn off that feature if enabled and scan your disks manually. Hope it helps ;-) |
