30786 2002-01-11 14:16:00 For a few weeks now my Dial-up connection box has been popping up at the best and worst of times. When I attempt to get rid of it by clicking on 'cancel' or on the close tab in the top right hand corner of the box, it comes back again and again. Sometimes attempting to close this box freezes up my computer. My computer is running (please don't laugh) Windows 95 with IE version 5. Guest (0)
30787 2002-01-11 18:53:00 Something must want to get on the net.

Press cntl/alt/del (I think this works in 95) to see what programs are running, try to figure out if any of them would need to hook up, ie for updates etc.

Otherwise i don't have a clue. ;-(

30789 2002-01-11 23:34:00 Hi there

I found that msn messenger is one program that will get trying to connect.

If you have this, see whether it is set to run in the background (it shows in your system tray by the clock)

Tools/Options/Preferences... uncheck 'allow this program to run in the background'

You may also like to choose not to run the program when windows starts but unchecking the relevant box.

If this is not the culprit - try using ZoneAlarm to monitor what programs are attempting to access the net.

30790 2002-01-12 01:36:00 Why don't you download ZoneAlarm as it will tell you what is trying to access the net as well as blocking outside intruders. Sometimes hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del will not leave you any wiser as to what is trying to get to the net. Guest (0)
30791 2002-01-17 22:49:00 Just a thought , but I have found sometimes this problem caused by 'Addware'. if you want to find out download Addaware from CNET.COM. It is much like a virus scanner for Addware. An E-mail virus is another possibility. Guest (0)
