| 31043 | 2002-01-13 08:15:00 | I also have a seagate 40g HD. Luckily mine was installed for me and I'm not sure if this helps or not but when I reformatted I had no end of trouble trying to install...I found that the drive was too big for my dos to see properly. After partitioning it in dos away I went. Iwas also using a seagate cd and that would only cause more problems...the puter would install windows in safe mode only and kept telling me I only had 8gb.... |

Your existing one should be set as master, with the new one set as slave. There should be instructions for this included with the drive. If not most drives have a jumper configuration diagram located on a sticker on the drive. When this has been varified, go into the BIOS, and recheck that the drive detect settings are set to auto. when you reboot you should see on the POST screen (which is the first Black/white screen that comes up when booting) the new drive. If the drive has been detected, all is well. The next step is formatting it. My preference is Partition Magic, which makes the job pretty easy. When this us compete, you should then be able to see the new drive in My Computer in Windows Hope this helps |
