31021 2002-01-13 04:40:00 Normally it would be good advice to check the search, but to be fair to Gum-two-exclamation-marks Hot, it's not too productive in this case.

I decided to do the search to see if there was anything new on this old, old problem and was surprised to find that a search on 'new window size' yielded nothing.

On the other hand, 'new window' returned 322 entries (!), and given that you can't see the whole thread from search results (only individual postings) 300+ entries is a bit intimidating.

So ... here, to the best of my knowledge, is the latest method of combatting this irritation:

1. Have only one IE window open.
2. Make sure it is NOT maximized.
3. Move the window so that the top left-hand corner is snug at the top left of the visible screen. The easy way to do this precisely is to click the explorer icon on the top left, select 'Move', then use keyboard Ctrl+Arrow keys to nudge the screen. Enter when you've got it where you want it.
4. Expand the screen by the same method as #3, but selecting 'Size' instead of 'Move'.
5. Got it where you want it? Now hold the CTRL key, click the top left icon again, and click 'close' (holding CTRL all the time).

Now when you open a new window or click on a link with shift+click you should get a (nearly) maximum screen every time.

Cheers

John.
